Walking and wheeling to school in Ontario is getting another boost thanks to the Ontario Active School Travel (OAST) Fund.
Sixteen projects in communities across the province have been awarded grants as part of the Fund’s second round. Successful applications were received from every region of Ontario and communities that range from Blind River (pop. 3,247) to Toronto (pop. 2.9 million). The funding will be used to boost school travel planning, conduct walking hazard assessments, develop active school travel charters and more. See the full list of projects here.
“Interest in the Fund was even higher this time around,” says Kate Berry, OAST program director. “We’re excited to be supporting more partners in more communities to build a culture of active school travel in Ontario.”
With a first round of grants announced in Spring 2018 this brings the total number of projects supported by the Fund to 28 being implemented in 52 communities with a growing network of municipal, school board, public health and non-profit partners.
The OAST Fund is administered by Green Communities Canada and made possible through financial support from the Government of Ontario.
